Huawei Selects Opera for Mobile Web Browser Platform

Huawei has inked a deal to pre-install a version of the Opera mobile web browser into a range of its handsets. Opera released Opera Mobile 10 for operators and OEMs last December. This direct-to-distributor version of the browser is outfitted with Opera's new, cross-platform UI framework.

"Customer expectations for mobile-phone capabilities are constantly growing. We needed a browser that's always ahead of those expectations, anticipating our customers' mobile Web needs and making it a reality. Opera is that browser," said Jiang Huabing, Head of Huawei handset R&D department, Huawei. "China represents unique growth opportunities in the mobile market, and we hope that with the addition of Opera Mobile to our handsets, more of China will soon be online."

Huawei shipped 30 million mobile phones in 2009.

"By working with a market leader such as Huawei, we are able to develop more deeply into the Chinese market and bring the Web to more people," said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. "Opera Mobile 10 is a significant achievement for Opera, as it takes mobile browsing to the next level. Huawei has recognized the value Opera adds for its customers, and, with our help they will continue to exceed expectations."
